Living Donor Liver Transplant (LDLT)

Liver is a unique organ with a capacity to regenerate on its own. This unique ability makes it possible for a healthy individual to donate a part of his/ her liver to their loved ones. A healthy donor can donate upto 60-70 % of liver safely. The remaining liver regenerates to take up the metabolic functions of the body in the healthy donor. At the same time the portion of liver transplanted in the patient with cirrhosis, also enlarges to take care of the metabolic needs.

Any family member who has no major health issues can come forward to donate. The prospective donor is screened by the transplant team and screening tests are performed. The donor is finalized only after thorough checks ensuring 100 % safety for donor.
